Privacy policy
Last updated 11 October 2026
HomeLoop is a family organiser. It's built so that your family's information stays with your family. This policy explains what the app uses, where it's kept, and the choices you have.
Who we are
HomeLoop is developed by Nick Skewes in Hong Kong ("we"). You can contact us about privacy at our support email.
Where your family's information is kept
Your family's calendar, chats, jobs, meals, to-dos, member cards and photos are stored in iCloud, using Apple's CloudKit. They live in the iCloud account of the person who set up the family, and are shared only with the people they invite. We don't run a server that stores this information, and we can't see it.
- Private chats, parents' to-dos and shared locations are sealed on your devices, so only the family members they're meant for can read them.
- Apple's own privacy policy covers how iCloud stores data.
What the app uses, and why
- Your name and email from Sign in with Apple, to identify you within your family. You can hide your email using Apple's "Hide My Email".
- Details you add to your card, such as a nickname, phone number, photo or home address, so your family can recognise and contact you.
- Location, only if you choose to share it, so your family can see where you are and get arrival and leaving alerts for places like home. You can pause sharing at any time. Children see their parents' locations; seeing a brother or sister needs their permission.
- Screen Time, only if a parent turns on the jobs lock. This uses Apple's Screen Time features. The apps chosen to lock stay on the child's device and aren't shared with us.
- Notifications, to tell you about messages, jobs and reminders.
- Contacts, photos, calendar and reminders, only when you choose to use them: picking a contact to fill in a card, adding a photo, or copying family events and to-dos into your own Calendar and Reminders apps.
Services we use
- Apple: iCloud (storage and sharing), Sign in with Apple, push notifications, Maps and place search, Screen Time and Apple Intelligence. Meal ideas from Apple Intelligence are worked out on your device.
- Cloudflare: delivers instant message notifications. When someone sends a message, their app sends Cloudflare the recipients' device push addresses, the sender's display name and a short notice such as "New message from Nick". Message text never goes through Cloudflare, and we don't store anything there. Cloudflare may process technical information such as IP addresses to deliver the request.
- Open-Meteo: the weather on the Home screen. Your device sends your approximate location to get a forecast.
- Spoonacular: online recipe search, if you use it. The words you search for and ingredient names are sent to find recipes.
- Open Food Facts: product details when you scan a barcode in Kitchen. The barcode number is sent.
What we don't do
- No advertising, and no tracking across apps or websites.
- No selling or sharing of your information for marketing.
- No analytics services, and no profiling of children.
Children
HomeLoop is made for families, including children under 13. Children join only when invited by a parent or guardian in the family, and parents control features like location and the jobs lock. Children's information stays within their family's iCloud, like everyone else's. A parent can contact us at any time with questions about their child's information.
Keeping and deleting information
- Your family's information stays in iCloud until it's deleted in the app, or the family is deleted by the person who set it up.
- When you leave a family, its information is removed from your device.
- Deleting the app removes the information stored on that device. Information in iCloud is managed through the family organiser's iCloud account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or move your information, or to object to how it's used. This includes rights under the UK and EU GDPR, the Australian Privacy Act and Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. Most of your information is in your own iCloud, so you can see and change it in the app. For anything else, contact us at our support email, and we'll reply within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we change how HomeLoop handles information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Important changes will also be shown in the app.
